Warrington Evening Post, 11th August, 1877
Extracts from the Press Report
This annual merry-making which commences to-day, is to be deprived of
many of its attractions owing to the growing unpopularity of the
festival amongst the peaceable inhabitants of the village
On the present occasion there is to be no rush cart nor morris dancing,
and the police are taking stringent measures to prevent any obstruction
of the highway by stalls or shows, several of which have already taken
up their quarters near the Cross.
